From January through March 2024, three construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed in the district through PennDOT's private-sector partners.

Interstate 84 Twin Bridges Replacement Project
The I-84 Section 282 project includes the replacement of 2 mainline bridges carrying I-84 EB and WB over Roaring Brook and the active Delaware, Lackawanna and Western (DL and W) Railroad and the reconfiguration of Exit 2 with SR 435 in Dunmore Borough and Roaring Brook Township, Lackawanna County. This project is expected to be completed in 2024

SR 424 Road Extension Project
The SR 424, Section 390 project involves an extension of SR 424, commonly referred to as the Hazleton Beltway, from the I-81/Exit 141 Interchange to Humboldt Industrial Park (HIP) in Hazle Township, Luzerne County. The approximately 1.1-mile long extension will involve the construction of a four-lane roadway from the current termination of the beltway just west of I-81 to Commerce Drive. This project is expected to be completed in 2024.

Suscon Road Bridge Replacement Project
The project involves the replacement of an existing 2-span continuous beam bridge with a 2-Span Composite Steel Plate Girder Bridge over Interstate 81. The project will slightly raise the profile over Interstate 81. The guiderail on all approaches will be brought up to standards and the pavement on the approaches along Route 2035 will be reconstructed.
Other work includes excavation, full-depth bituminous paving bridge approach, drainage, guiderail, temporary traffic control, signing, temporary concrete barrier, landscaping, E & S Control measures, pavement markings, delineators, removal of the existing bridge, epoxy surface treatment for the bridge deck, temporary excavation support & protection system, water line relocation, and other miscellaneous construction.
The project will be completed in the Fall of 2023.
