Milton Grove Road Over Little Chiques Creek

Project Location Map

Overview

This bridge replacement project is located along SR 4033 (Milton Grove Road) in Rapho Township and Mount Joy Township, Lancaster County. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing, deteriorating bridge and provide continued safe and efficient access on SR 4033 over Little Chiques Creek.

The existing structure was built in 1947 and is a two-span steel I-beam bridge supported on stone masonry abutments and pier. The existing bridge length is 142 ft.

Proposed construction will consist of replacing the existing bridge with a two-span prestressed concrete bulb tee beam bridge supported on reinforced concrete full-height abutments and a wall pier. The proposed bridge length is 144 ft. Additional work includes placing rock scour protection at the abutments and pier, reconstructing the pavement along the roadway tie-ins of the new structure, and replacing guide rail. The pavement within the limits of guide rail will also be overlaid. The replacement structure will be slightly widened to provide two 11’-0” travel lanes and 4’-0” shoulders.

This section of Milton Grove Road has an average daily traffic volume of 1,735 vpd.

The bridge will be closed for approximately 12 months to all traffic during construction. The proposed detour is approximately 4.0 miles in length and utilizes SR 4010 (Mount Pleasant Grove Road) to SR 4017 (Grandview Road/Valley Road) to SR 4014 (Milton Grove Road) to SR 4033 (Milton Grove Road). Access to all driveways and adjacent roads within the project limits will be maintained during construction. Overhead utilities are present at the site and utility relocations will be necessary to accommodate construction.

The project is currently in design, and construction work is anticipated to begin in Fall 2023 and last approximately 12 months.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns regarding the project.
