King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Monday, March 20, on a project to improve travel and safety along a 2.87-mile section of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in East Bradford and West Goshen townships, Chester County.
Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor will narrow the travel lanes; extend the acceleration lanes; replace and install traffic signals; construct shoulders to accommodate bicycles; and install center line rumble strips; replace guide rails; and wrong way countermeasures throughout the project corridor.
The improvements begin at the intersection of U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) and continue east to the intersection with the U.S. 202 interchange. The intersections included in this project are North New Street, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), Penn Drive, Phoenixville Pike, and U.S. 202.
The project aims to improve the safe and efficient movement of motorists and bicyclists on the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) corridor.
As construction on this improvement project progresses, the contractor will implement full closures as needed on sections of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass). Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route. Temporary signals and signage will be installed to direct traffic through the detour.
Allan Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $3.5 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the project is expected to finish in the winter 2023.
