03/30/2023

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a traffic shift followed by median paving are scheduled on U.S. 1 beginning Sunday, April 2, under the Section RC2 project to reconstruct, widen and improve U.S. 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Sunday, April 2, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a single lane pattern with intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes is planned on southbound U.S. 1 between the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 and Pennsylvania Turnpike interchanges for a traffic shift; and
  • Sunday, April 2, through Thursday, April 6, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a left lane closure will be in place on northbound U.S. 1 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Penndel/Business U.S. 1 interchanges for median paving.

The traffic shift will move all southbound U.S. 1 traffic onto the recently completed southbound side of the bridge over Neshaminy Creek. When northbound U.S. 1 traffic is shifted onto the creek bridge later in April, the contractor will begin demolition of the existing northbound bridge and construction of the new northbound structure.

Additionally, this weekend's scheduled closure of the southbound U.S. 1 exit ramp to Rockhill Drive has been postponed to a later date due to weather.

PennDOT is reconstructing and widening U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing new bridges between Old Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Township and Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township under two contracts (RC1, RC2) totaling more than $207 million.
