Viaduct Rehabilitation Scheduled at Night Next Week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that viaduct construction will continue on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) next week under a project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct in Philadelphia.
 
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, June 5, through Friday, June 9, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic right lane and/or left closures will be in place on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between 17th Street and Fox Street; and
  • Monday, June 5, through Friday, June 9, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic right and/or left lane closures will be in place on northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between Fox Street and 17th Street.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

During the nighttime operation, PennDOT's contractor will install the new precast concrete median barrier and remove the temporary construction barrier from the work zone under the last major stage of its $95.5 million project to rehabilitate and improve the U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) structure over the SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood.

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the bridge improvement project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds.
