Bridge was damaged by vehicle strike; PennDOT working on a repair plan
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the Route 34 bridge spanning Little Buffalo Creek in Newport Borough, Perry County, is closed between Mulberry Street and Bloomfield Avenue due to damage from a vehicle strike.
PennDOT is working on a repair plan and expects to begin those repairs soon. The bridge will be closed until the repairs can be completed sometime this summer.
Traffic will be detoured. Travelers heading south from north of the closure should take Route 34 north, Route 22 west, Route 17 west, Route 74 south, and Route 274 east to Route 34. Travelers heading north from south of the closure should take Route 34 south to Route 274 west, Route 74 north, Route 17 east, and Route 22 east to Route 34.
An update will be issued when the detour is lifted.
