Route 22 Resurfacing Project

A major bridge preservation project began this spring on multiple bridges and ramps on Interstate 81 and Route 22 in the City of Harrisburg and Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County.
This project includes bridge preservation work, approach pavement work, sign and sign structure replacements, and other miscellaneous construction on I-81 from Progress Avenue in the City of Harrisburg to the Susquehanna River at the George N. Wade Bridge in Susquehanna Township, and on Route 22 from Elmerton Avenue to about 0.5 miles north of I-81 in the city.
Deblin, Inc., of Mechanicsburg, PA, is the prime contractor on this project. This project is expected to be completed by October 27, 2023.

A project to relocate the existing on-ramp from North George Street to northbound I-83 at Exit 22 in York County. This project includes the construction of a sound wall along the ramp.
Improvements include removing the existing ramp from North George Street to northbound I-83 and relocating it across from Skyview Drive, installing a new traffic signal at North George Street and Skyview Drive, installing a traffic signal at the intersection of North George Street and the northbound I-83 off ramp, resurfacing North George Street from the I-83 overpass to just north of Skyview Drive, resurfacing I-83 from North George Street to the Locust Lane overpass, and other miscellaneous construction activities.
Kinsley Construction of York, PA, is the prime contractor on the project. Work is expected to be completed this fall.

A resurfacing project began this spring on Route 22 in Perry County.
This project includes concrete patching, removal of bituminous surface, resurfacing, tree removal, and guiderail updates on eastbound Route 22 in Greenwood, Howe, Buffalo, and Watts townships from Newport/Route 34 eastbound to the Dauphin County Line.
It also includes resurfacing westbound Route 22 from just west of the Newport/Route 34 Interchange to Owl Hollow Road (Route 1014), and work on ramps at Huggins Road and Meadow Grove Road.
Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Harrisburg is the prime contractor on this project. Work is expected to be completed by early September of 2022.

41 bridges were repaired, replaced, or preserved by PennDOT or industry forces in 2021. 361 miles of roadway were improved by department or partner crews in 2021. This includes 100 miles of paving.
PennDOT's Engineering District 8 is responsible for the state-maintained transportation network in this region. This includes 5,230 road miles and 3,404 bridges.
