Market Street Bridge (Route 462) Replacement Project
Cost: $6.4 million
County: York
Walnut Street Extension Project (The Goat Path)
Cost: $22 million
County: Lancaster
Route 22 Resurfacing Project
Cost: $9.7 million
County: Perry
This project consists of the replacement of the Market Street bridge spanning Mill Creek, approach work, guide rail updates, drainage work, ramp re-alignment, signal upgrades, and other miscellaneous construction.
The bridge is being replaced on an accelerated schedule with a closure and detour expected to take only about six weeks from start to finish. It is an early action item associated with the North York Widening Project, which is a major initiative to modernize Interstate 83 between Exit 19 and Exit 22 in York County.
Clearwater Construction, Inc., of Mercer, PA, is the prime contractor on this $6,379,000 project. Work is expected to be completed by the spring of 2023.
Cost: $6.4 million
County: York
The locally-sponsored project leverages state funds to alleviate congestion, improve safety and support economic development by extending Walnut Street on alignment with a section of PennDOT right-of-way known locally as the Goat Path.
The property on which Goat Path is located was acquired decades ago by the department for a new roadway, but public opposition and funding issues at the time resulted in those plans being shelved. The right of way became noted as a place local farmers grazed their livestock, thus the nickname. Times change, however, and the Walnut Street Extension Project broke ground this summer with solid support.
Project sponsor High Real Estate Group LLC (HREG) of Lancaster leveraged $14.8 million in state transportation funds, plus a $3 million DCED grant to pay for the nearly $22 million project.
Cost: $22 million
County: Lancaster
A resurfacing project began this spring on Route 22 in Perry County.
This project includes concrete patching, removal of bituminous surface, resurfacing, tree removal, and guiderail updates on eastbound Route 22 in Greenwood, Howe, Buffalo, and Watts townships from Newport/Route 34 eastbound to the Dauphin County Line.
It also includes resurfacing westbound Route 22 from just west of the Newport/Route 34 Interchange to Owl Hollow Road (Route 1014), and work on ramps at Huggins Road and Meadow Grove Road.
Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Harrisburg is the prime contractor on this project. Work was completed in September 2022.
Cost: $9.7 million
