From January 2022 through June 2022, 18 construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed in the district through PennDOT's private-sector partners.

In District 1, 9 bridges were repaired, replaced, or preserved by PennDOT or industry forces through June 2022. 95 miles of roadway were improved by department or partner crews through June 2022. District 1 has put out 168 bridge projects and 377 projects for roadway and other improvement projects worth approximately $969.4 million since January 2015.

Pymatuning State Park Trail Project

In 2022 work on the five-leg roundabout being constructed at the intersections of Oliver (Route 4008), Flower, and Hamot (Route 4010) roads in Summit Township, Erie County will move into Phase 1B. This phase will focus on the Hamot Road north approach to the new roadway and the removal of the unused portion of Hamot Road. Temporary lanes will be constructed for two-lane traffic on Hamot Road. Additional drainage work will also be done involving various detours throughout the summer. The roundabout is expected to be fully opened to traffic in July 2022.

More About the Oliver Road Roundabout ProjectWork on I-90 in 2022 will see improvements to two sections, one to reconstruct nearly seven miles of highway and the Route 18 interchange beginning near mile marker 3.5 and extending east to near mile marker 10.5, and the other to repave more than 10 miles of roadway from near the I-86 interchange at mile marker 35 to the New York state line. The focus of the first project this year will be the reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of I-90, completion of the Route 18 bridge and two teardrop roundabouts at Exit 9 and replacement of the eastbound bridge over Neiger Road. While the second project will include paving operations as well as drainage upgrades.

More About the I-90 ProjectPennDOT has partnered with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to rehabilitate and expand the multi-purpose trail near the spillway from Fries Road to into Linesville Borough. Once complete, the trail will be increase from just over one mile long to more than three miles long. Work in the second year of the project will include construction of the new multi-use trail from Hartstown Road to South Chestnut Street in Linesville Borough. Once complete, the trail will be increase from just over one mile long to more than three miles long. Work this year will also include the reassembly of the historic Messerall Truss Bridge from Oil Creek Township, Crawford County. Work started in late July 2021 and is expected to be competed in 2022.
