On May 24, District 11 and the Allegheny County Safety Partners gathered at Three Rivers Harley Davidson to raise awareness of motorcycle safety during National Motorcycle Safety Month.

Motorcycle riding emergency responders and their families were invited to have their motorcycles blessed in the hopes of bringing them safety this riding season. The safety partners also shared safe riding tips and distributed motorcycle safety resources.

PennDOT also had the opportunity to share information on the recently revamped Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP) and how riders can take advantage program's motorcycle training courses tailored for all skill levels.

The partners also highlighted the importance of watching out for emergency personnel who ride. This includes sharing the road properly with motorcycles and abiding by Pennsylvania's Move Over Law. The move over law requires drivers approaching an emergency response area who are unable to safely merge into a lane farther away from the response area to "pass the emergency response area at a speed of no more than 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit and reasonable for safely passing."

The Allegheny County Safety Partners group consists of more than a dozen public service and law enforcement agencies who all partner to bring traffic safety programs to the many communities within Allegheny County.

The partners enjoyed this event that raised awareness of motorcycle safety in the region. Having the support of the attendees, the group looks forward to next year's event and hopes to expand further.
