dotGrants is PennDOT's grant-management solution. The system was designed to assist applicants and the agency staff to effectively organize and manage online grant and grant-like requests for funding, allocation, and distribution.

Public Transportation
Pennsylvania invests more than $1.5 Billion annually in public transportation — ranking fourth in the nation in direct support for public transportation. PennDOT oversees operating and capital investments for 36 fixed-route (scheduled local bus, light rail and commuter rail) systems, 35 community transportation systems, passenger rail service between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and 15 intercity bus routes provided by four intercity bus companies.

Rail Freight
Pennsylvania ranks first in the country in the number of operating railroads (65), and also ranks near the top in total track mileage (more than 5,600 miles). PennDOT provides financial and technical assistance to railroads and businesses while promoting economic development through its
grant programs and other resources.
Aviation
PennDOT administers
four grant programs for airport development: the federal Block Grant Program, the state Aviation Development Program, the state Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program and the Real Estate Tax Reimbursement Program. Together, these programs invest approximately $35 million annually into airport development.

Highway Safety
PennDOT provides
traffic safety grants to local governments, Pennsylvania State-related universities and Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities, and nonprofit organizations to improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes.

Traffic Operations
PennDOT provides transportation enhancement and traffic operations grants to local agencies to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals (Green Light-Go) and a range of safety and mobility projects (Automated Red Light Enforcement Funding Program).
Municipal Programs
The
Municipal and County Liquid Fuels Programs support maintenance and construction efforts on locally owned roads, streets, and bridges. In 2007, the reporting processes for both programs were added to the dotGrants system.
