Ramp Detours for the Portersville Bridge Replacement Project in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County Begin July 19

Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing upcoming ramp detours at Exit 96 on Interstate 79 Northbound and Southbound in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County as crews continue work on the Portersville Bridge Project.

Two-lane traffic will be maintained on State Route 488 through the project as part of the detour route

Beginning at 8:00 PM on July 19, crews from J.F. Shea Construction, Inc. of Mt. Pleasant, PA, will be begin the first stage of reconstruction of the existing ramps with work continuing until 6:00 AM July 29. 

To detour, motorists travelling north on Interstate 79 should exit at Exit 99 and travel on State Route 422 Westbound to State Route 19 Southbound to State Route 488 Eastbound.   Interstate 79 Southbound to State Route 488 motorists should take Exit 99 to State Route 422 Westbound to State Route 19 Southbound to State Route 488 Eastbound.   State Route 488 traffic to Interstate 79 will travel State Route 488 Eastbound to State Route 19 Northbound to State Route 422 Eastbound to Interstate 79.  Detour signs will be posted.

Work is weather dependent. 

The anticipated completion date for this $6.3 million bridge replacement project is June 2024. The existing bridge will be replaced with a two-span, steel bridge.
