District 11 Slide Remediation Projects​

Geotechnical issues on state roadways in Southwest Pennsylvania have been an ongoing problem for the Department. District 11 currently has over 100 geotechnical hazards in Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence counties and typically adds 30 to 40 landslides to the list each year. Addressing all of these problem areas would cost over $90 million in design and construction costs.

The district uses several methods to combat these geotechnical issues. Depending on the size and scope of the necessary repair the Department can use a stand-alone contract, a geotechnical contract, or the Allegheny and Beaver maintenance landslide crews. Approximately 41 sites will be addressed in 2022.

Route 885 Lebanon Road Slide Repair

Slide repair work began January 16, 2023, on Lebanon Road (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.

Work will occur on Lebanon Road at the intersection with Mifflin Road (Route 2045) weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through mid-February. Flaggers will control traffic on both roadways.
