I-376 Parkway East Overnight Lane Restrictions Start Sunday Night in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight lane restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) and the overnight closures of various ramps in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Sunday night, April 16 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions of I-376 beneath the Smithfield Street Bridge through mid-August to allow crews to conduct underdeck repairs according to the following schedule: 

  • Monday through Thursday nights – 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Friday and Saturday nights – 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.

  • Sunday night – 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Additionally, intermittent ramp closures will occur Sunday through Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.: 

  • Grant Street to westbound (outbound) I-376 Parkway East

  • The interstate connector - I-279 to eastbound (outbound) I-376 Parkway East

  • Eastbound Fort Pitt Boulevard to eastbound (outbound) I-376 Parkway East

The ramps will close for underdeck repair work on the Smithfield Street Bridge. All ramps will not close simultaneously.  Ramp traffic will be detoured.

  • From Grant Street, turn right onto Fort Pitt Boulevard

  • At Stanwix Street, turn left onto the ramp to westbound I-376

  • End detour

The interstate connector - I-279 to eastbound (outbound) I-376 Parkway East

  • From I-279 continue toward Downtown/I-376 East Monroeville

  • Bear left toward Downtown Pittsburgh onto Fort Pitt Boulevard

  • Follow Fort Pitt Boulevard to eastbound (outbound) I-376

  • End detour

Eastbound Fort Pitt Boulevard to eastbound (outbound) I-376 Parkway East

  • From I-279 continue toward Downtown/I-376 East Monroeville

  • Bear right toward 376 East toward Monroeville

  • End detour

This $8.49 million bridge preservation project includes steel repairs, spot painting, replacing existing sidewalk in two of the four spans, replacing the epoxy deck surface, concrete deck repairs, concrete and masonry substructure repairs, as well as upgrades to the lane control system and installation of pedestrian signals at the Fort Pitt Boulevard intersection. The project also includes minor preservation work to the bridge carrying Smithfield Street over Station Square Drive. The project will have single-lane traffic maintained throughout the project duration with two full weekend closures expected. Bus traffic will be maintained during the weekend closures and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
