I-79 Overnight Ramp Closures Friday, Saturday in Allegheny County

​Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing sawing and sealing operations on several I-79 interchange ramps in Allegheny County will occur Friday and Saturday nights, September 8-9 weather permitting.

The following ramps will close to traffic for sawing and sealing operations from 7 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday:

  • Northbound Route 65 to southbound I-79

  • Southbound Route 65 to southbound I-79

  • Kilbuck Street/Deer Run Road to southbound I-79

  • Northbound I-79 to northbound Route 65

  • Northbound I-79 to southbound Route 65

  • Northbound I-79 to Deer Run Road/Kilbuck Street (Glenfield Ramp)

Only one ramp will close at a time. Ramp traffic will be detoured during the work. Closures utilizing Mt. Nebo Road to southbound I-79 as a detour route will not be impacted until Saturday night.

  • From northbound Route 65, take the left-hand off-ramp to North 79 toward Erie

  • Turn right onto Kilbuck Street

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79 toward Erie

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • End detour

Southbound Route 65 to Southbound I-79

  • From southbound Route 65, take the left-hand off-ramp to North 79 toward Erie

  • Turn right onto Kilbuck Street

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79 toward Erie

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • End detour

Kilbuck Street/Deer Run Road ramp to Southbound I-79

  • Take Kilbuck Street northbound

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79 toward Erie

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • End detour

Northbound I-79 to Northbound Route 65

  • Continue northbound on I-79 past the closed ramp

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • From southbound I-79, take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Turn left onto Glenfield Road

  • Glenfield Road becomes Kilbuck Street

  • Turn right onto the ramp to northbound Route 65 toward Sewickley

  • End detour

Northbound I-79 to Southbound Route 65

  • Continue northbound on I-79 past the closed ramp

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • From southbound I-79, take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Turn left onto Glenfield Road

  • Glenfield Road becomes Kilbuck Street

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound Route 65 toward Emsworth

  • End detour

Northbound I-79 to Kilbuck Street/Deer Run Road (Glenfield Ramp)

  • Continue northbound on I-79 past the closed ramp

  • From northbound I-79, take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Turn left onto Mt. Nebo Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • From southbound I-79, take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Turn left onto Glenfield Road

  • Glenfield Road becomes Kilbuck Street

  • Turn right onto Deer Run Road

  • End detour

Additional ramp closures will occur through September 24.  Details will be provided in advance of work.

The work is part of the $26.49 million I-79 improvement project. Improvements include four bridge deck replacements, one bridge preservation, milling and resurfacing, preservation work on seven sign structures, installation of five new ITS signs, guide rail improvements, signage updates, and pavement marking installation. The majority of the project will conclude in early 2024.

The prime contractor is the Joseph B. Fay Company. Work on this project will be coordinated with other projects in the area.
