County:  Monroe
Municipality:  Delaware Water Gap Borough and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Road name: PA 611/North Delaware Drive
Between:  Cherry Valley Road/Oak Street and Slateford Road
Type of restriction:  24-hour
Restriction:  PA 611 was closed December 6, 2022 due to a rock slide caused by heavy rain. Traffic is being detoured on PA 512, PA 33, US 209, Interstate 80, and Business Route 209.

For the safety of the motoring public, this section of PA 611 is closed and detoured.

In early August 2024 PennDOT received a special use permit from the National Park Service (NPS) to perform work to move towards opening the road.

The approved plans include the installation of a temporary, free-standing rockfall barrier. This will allow two-way traffic to flow while PennDOT and the NPS continue working on a more permanent solution.

The PennDOT contractor J.D. Eckman, Inc. began moving barrier and other safety equipment into the area on August 14, 2024.

This initial work includes roadway grading and realignment, constructing a concrete slab, the installation of free-standing metal posts, concrete barriers and protective chain-link fencing.

PennDOT’s intent and goal is to open PA 611 to a single lane condition controlled with temporary traffic signals by mid-to-late October 2024.

The road will not be fully open (two lanes open, one lane in each direction, with no traffic signals) until a more permanent solution is determined. Currently there is no estimated timeline for when it will be fully open.
