Tilden Road Bridge over Unnamed Tributary to Irish Creek

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a Plans Display for a project to replace the State Route 4015/Tilden Road Bridge over an unnamed tributary to Irish Creek in Centre Township, Berks County.

The existing structure is a 13-foot single span concrete encased steel I-beam bridge, that was constructed in 1923. The superstructure sits on concrete abutments and is rated in poor condition, and the substructure is rated in poor condition according to the latest NBIS inspection. The bridge has a cast-in-place concrete curb on the left side and the right side of the deck. The bridge is 16'-0" wide measured curb-to-curb and carries one lane of traffic. It is not currently posted for live load. The approach roadway width varies on either side of the bridge, but generally is wider than the rail-to[1]rail opening on the bridge. The area surrounding the bridge is predominately woodland and field. The legal right-of-way width along SR 4015 is 25'-0" throughout the project area apart from a small section over the single-lane structure where the legal right-of-way reduces to 20'-0" and then quickly returns to the 25'-0" width.

Tilden Road currently has an average daily traffic volume of 387 vehicles.

A detour map has been provided, which shows a proposed detour which utilizes Shartlesville Road, Wolf Creek Road, and North Boundary Road. Access to driveways within the project limits will be maintained at all times during construction.

The project is anticipated to be constructed during the summer and fall of 2024. All schedules are subject to change.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential effect upon cultural resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested.
