State Route 3005 Country Club Road Bridge over Mahoning Creek

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a Plans Display for the State Route State Route (SR) 3005 / Country Club Road Bridge over Mahoning Creek. This bridge replacement project is in Mahoning Township, Carbon County.

This online plans display includes digital picture boards and an online comment form, and is available to the public from August 9, 2023 to August 31, 2023.

The purpose of the project is to maintain a safe crossing of Mahoning Creek on SR 3005 in Mahoning Township that meets current design criteria. The project is needed due to the existing bridge being in poor condition which is governed by the substructure rating. This project is located on SR 3005 Country Club Road in Mahoning Township, Carbon County approximately 4.5 miles West of Lehighton.

The existing structure over the creek is a two-span concrete encased I-beam bridge on full height concrete abutments. The existing two-span bridge will be removed in its entirety and replaced with a single-span structure. The proposed replacement will provide a safe and reliable vehicle crossing for two-lane traffic. The structure will carry two 9’-0” lanes with two 2’-0” minimum variable width shoulders. Sidewalks are not present on the existing structure and are not proposed for the replacement structure. Horizontal alignment for SR 3005 will match the existing horizontal curve. The project will be constructed using a relatively short detour.

It is anticipated that construction will be begin in late 2025 with an anticipated completion in 2026. All schedules are subject to change.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or have special concerns that require individual attention, please contact PennDOT Project Manager Dan Stewart, at c-dastewar@pa.gov or 717.775.5109.
