Shiffer Road Bridge over PA 33

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a Plans Display for the State Route 2036 (Shiffer Road) bridge over PA 33. This bridge replacement project is in Hamilton Township, Monroe County.

This virtual plans display includes digital picture boards and an online comment form, and is available to the public for two weeks from January 8, 2024 to January 22, 2024. The plans display is also available at the Hamilton Township building at: 229 Fenner Avenue, Sciota, PA 18354.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. The purpose of the project is to provide a crossing over PA 33 that addresses the poor structure condition and deficient vertical and lateral clearances.

The project consists of replacing the existing single-span bridge with a two-span structure and replacing guiderail that will transition to concrete barriers at the bridge. Shiffer Road will be realigned to the west to improve the horizontal alignment.

The project is currently in design, and construction work is estimated to take place in the 2026 and 2027 construction season. However, this schedule is tentative and may change.

The bridge is expected to be closed for approximately 18 months during construction (spring of 2026 to fall of 2027). The anticipated detour is 6.3 miles and utilizes local roads.

The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or special concerns that require individual attention, please contact PennDOT Project Manager Jayne McColl at c-jmccoll@pa.gov or 610-871-4566.
