Route 191 at Newburg Road and Route 946

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), announces a Plans Display for a project on State Route 191 (Nazareth Pike) in Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County.

This online plans display includes a digital project plan and a comment form available to the public until May 7, 2024.

The purpose of the project is to make proposed improvements to the four-leg signalized intersection of State Route 191 (Nazareth Pike) and State Route 3020 (Newburg Road) and the separate stop-controlled Y-intersection of State Route 946 (Daniels Road) at Route 191 (Nazareth Pike), located approximately 500' to the north. The proposed design includes the following features:

Route 191 (Nazareth Pike)/Newburg Road Intersection

  • A left-turn lane will be added to each approach to the intersection. Protected left-turn (green arrow) phasing will be provided on Nazareth Pike.
  • The widening will ensure there is plenty of space for tractor-trailers to make all turns.
  • The existing traffic signal poles and equipment will be replaced.
  • The existing guide rail will be replaced on the Nazareth Pike northbound approach.
  • To minimize right-of-way impacts to adjacent properties, a single-face concrete barrier will be placed on the Newburg Road westbound approach to Nazareth Pike.

Route 191 (Nazareth Pike)/Route 946 (Daniels Road) Intersection

  • Daniels Road will be realigned with Nazareth Pike to create a T-intersection.
  • A left-turn lane will be added to Nazareth Pike northbound to provide a protected lane for motorists waiting to turn left on Daniels Road.
  • A left-turn lane will also be added southbound for motorists destined for the Urgent Care building.
