MacDade Boulevard Corridor Project

Project Location

Overview

The MacDade Boulevard Corridor Project aims to improve the safe and efficient movements of motorists, emergency services, and pedestrians along an approximately 3.3-mile segment of MacDade Boulevard from Fairview Road to Ashland Avenue in Glenolden Borough in Delaware County. This location was identified for safety improvements based on crash trends and crash clusters in the Project area. Some of the main safety concerns for this corridor are angle and rear-end crashes and a high percentage of crashes.

Safety improvements will include the implementation of a road diet, which will reduce the four-lane existing MacDade Boulevard corridor to a three-lane highway with a center two-way left turn lane from Fairview Road to Morton Avenue and from Monta Vista Avenue to MacDade Shopping Center Driveway. Lane configuration at all signalized intersections will remain as is today, including left- and right-turn lanes. Additional improvements, from Fairview Road to Ashland Avenue, include replacing the traffic signal mast arms, installing pedestrian push buttons, and synchronizing the signal timing between intersections using existing fiber optic lines along the corridor. The Project will upgrade all traffic signals, including an asphalt mill and overlay. Construction will occur within the existing right-of-way.
