King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to attend a virtual meeting on Thursday, August 10, for the proposed project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying City Avenue (U.S. 1) over the SEPTA Cynwyd Regional Rail Line in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
The existing arch bridge was constructed in 1910 and widened in 1934. Rehabilitation includes repairs to the arch bridge and sidewalk structures, replacement of existing utility lines on the bridge, and replacement of the roadway, sidewalk, and protective barriers.
In addition, a retaining wall will be replaced, and a new ADA curb ramp and stair system will be constructed to improve pedestrian access between City Avenue (U.S. 1), SEPTA's Bala Station, and the future Parkside Cynwyd Trail.
The purpose of the project is to provide for a safe and efficient crossing while meeting the long-term transportation needs in the project area. The existing bridge is listed in poor condition with areas of significant deterioration.
As part of PennDOT's public outreach program, the department encourages the public to attend the virtual public meeting on Thursday, August 10, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM by clicking on the meeting link on the project website prior to the presentation start time.
The department's design team will provide a project presentation to begin the meeting, followed by questions and answers. Design team members will be available following the presentation to answer questions and obtain feedback from the public Members of the public will be able to ask questions following the presentation using the platform's chat feature.
Please note that internet access, a computer or mobile device, and a valid email address are required to view the virtual meeting. Anyone with special needs or requiring special aid is requested to contact PennDOT Project Manager George Gumas, P.E. at 610-757-1877.
Members of the public who are unable to attend can view a recording of the meeting and a copy of the materials on the project website following the presentation. The public can also provide feedback using the comment form on the project website.
