Project to Replace the Fisherman's Cove Bridge in Victory Township, Venango County to Begin Next Week

09/21/2023

Work will begin next week to replace the 116-year-old bridge that carries Fisherman's Cove Road over Victory Run in Victory Township, Venango County.

Work is expected to start Monday, September 25, 2023, as crews will begin building a temporary road and bridge to be used by motorists in lieu of a detour during construction of the permanent structure.

The temporary one-lane bridge is expected to be completed by late November 2023 and traffic will be controlled by a temporary signal.

Work will pause during the winter season and will resume in April 2024.

The new bridge, which is expected to open in October 2024, will include new steel beams, concrete bridge deck, and concrete parapets. Other work will include roadway widening, slope stabilization, guide rail improvements, and signage upgrades.

The existing structure was built in 1907 and is classified as poor condition with a posted weight limit of 10 tons. Approximately 50 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Thomas Construction, Inc. of Grove City, PA. The contract cost is $1,999,300, which is to be paid with both state and federal funds.

This year PennDOT's Northwest Region expects to do work on more than 100 projects. To see a full listing of all the anticipated work, check out the 2023 Construction Book located under the Resources tab online at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
