Route 699 Bridge Over Interstate 90 to Reopen

10/05/2023

The new bridge that carries Route 699 (Edinboro Road) over Interstate 90 in Summit Township, Erie County is expected to open October 6, 2023.

The bridge is located near the Interstate 79 interchange and approximately three miles north of the intersection with Grub Road (Route 4011).

Work to replace the former bridge started in April 2023, and included constructing a new 192-foot structure, new roadway approaches, paving, updated drainage and guiderail improvements, as well as high tension cable barrier, and new signs and pavement markings.

Work on I-90 in the area of the bridge is expected to wrap up later this fall. Motorists should be alert for continued lane restrictions near the bridge.

The contractor is MEKIS Construction Corporation of Fenelton, PA. The contract cost is $4,871,478, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
