PennDOT Announces Plans Display for Project to Repair the Bridges on Hosack Road in Mercer County

03/25/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view the online plans display for a project to repair the bridges that carry Hosack Road over Yellow Creek Branch in Jackson Township, Mercer County.

The project includes the partially reconstruction of the existing abutments and a new bridge deck and superstructure.

The bridges are located on Hosack Road between the intersection with the Fox Mine Road and the intersection with Route 62. The first bridge is approximately 1,000 feet south of Fox Mine Road and used by approximately 375 vehicles a day, on average. The second is approximately 3,566 feet south of Fox Mine Road and is used by approximately 250 vehicles a day, on average.

Mercer County owns the bridges, which were built in 1965 and are rated in poor condition.

Work is expected to start during the 2024 construction season and is expected to be completed in 2025.

A detour will be required during construction and is expected to be in place for approximately 12 months. The proposed 4.9-mile detour route will be posted using Rout 62, Clark Road, and Fox Mine Road.

The plans display for the Hosack Road Bridges Project, which will be held online only, includes a handout, digital plans, and an online comment form. It will be open until April 9, 2024 and can be accessed by visiting the PennDOT District 1 website, www.penndot.pa.gov/District1.

Those unable to access the information online may give feedback by contacting PennDOT Project Manager Gregory W. Lindsay, P.E., at grlindsay@pa.gov, or 814-678-7030.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project documents will be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or have special concerns that require individual attention, contact Gregory W. Lindsay, P.E., PennDOT Project Manager, at grlindsay@pa.gov, or 814-678-7030.
