Roadway Reflector Work to Begin Today in Northwest Region

05/02/2024

A project to replace roadway reflectors throughout the Northwest Region of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin today.

The raised pavement markers are a safety device placed along the yellow centerlines and white edge lines to help motorists' visibility in low-light conditions. The markers also create an audible rumble when struck by a vehicle's tires to alert motorists of a lane departure.

Work is scheduled to begin today with a focus on interstates in District 1, which covers Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties, before transitioning to secondary routes.

All work will be performed between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 AM and no work will be done on interstates on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.

The project is expected to be completed by October 2024.

Motorists may encounter moving operations or lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should anticipate potential travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is WL Markers, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio. The contract cost is $236,527 and is to be paid entirely with federal funds.

This year PennDOT's Northwest Region excepts to do work on more than 100 projects. To see a full listing of all the anticipated work, check out the 2024 Construction Book located under the Resources tab online at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
