Inbound Fort Duquesne Bridge Closures this Weekend in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight closures of the inbound (southbound) I-279 Fort Duquesne Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Friday and Saturday night, May 12-13 weather permitting.

Crews will conduct the removal of existing pavement markings and installation of new durable pavement markings on the inbound (southbound) lower deck of the I-279 Fort Duquesne Bridge from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. each night.  To allow this work to occur, the inbound Fort Duquesne Bridge will close to traffic. Motorists will be detoured.

Inbound (southbound) I-279 (Parkway North) to the Fort Duquesne Bridge

  • From inbound (southbound) I-279, motorists will take the North 65 Ohio River Boulevard (Exit 1C) off-ramp

  • From northbound Route 65, take the ramp to South 19 to 51 West End Bridge/Chateau Street/Western Avenue

  • Turn left at the traffic light toward South 19 to I-376/51 West End Bridge

  • Cross the West End Bridge

  • Turn right onto West Carson Street

  • Turn left toward North 60 toward Crafton

  • Continue straight toward North 19/60 to East I-376 Crafton/Downtown

  • Turn left onto Short Street toward North 19/60 to East I-376 Crafton/Downtown

  • Bear left onto South Main Street toward North I-279/19 to East 376 West End Bridge/Downtown

  • Turn right onto West Carson Street toward South 837 to East 376 Downtown/South Side

  • From West Carson Street (Route 837) take the ramp to North 279/East 376 onto the Fort Pitt Bridge

  • End detour

Southbound Route 65 to the Fort Duquesne Bridge

  • From southbound Route 65, take the South 19 to Route 51 off-ramp toward the West End Bridge

  • Cross the West End Bridge

  • Turn right onto West Carson Street

  • Turn left toward North 60 toward Crafton

  • Continue straight toward North 19/60 to East I-376 Crafton/Downtown

  • Turn left onto Short Street toward North 19/60 to East I-376 Crafton/Downtown

  • Bear left onto South Main Street toward North I-279/19 to East 376 West End Bridge/Downtown

  • Turn right onto West Carson Street toward South 837 to East 376 Downtown/South Side

  • From West Carson Street (Route 837) take the ramp to North 279/East 376 onto the Fort Pitt Bridge

  • End detour

Weather impacts may require work to occur from 9 p.m. Sunday evening to 5 a.m. Monday morning with a closure of the Fort Duquesne Bridge.  Information will be provided in advance of a closure Sunday evening.
