Thornburg Bridge Closure this Weekend June 2-5 in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the final weekend closure of the Thornburg Bridge (Route 60) in Robinson Township, Crafton Borough, and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Friday evening, June 2 through Monday morning, June 5 weather permitting.

The Thornburg Bridge will close to traffic from 9 p.m. Friday continuously through 6 a.m. Monday morning to complete paving operations. Traffic will be detoured.

  • Follow Steubenville Pike (Route 60) westbound to Interstate 79

  • Take the ramp to South 79 toward Washington

  • From southbound I-79, take the ramp to East 376 (Exit 59A) toward Pittsburgh

  • From eastbound (inbound) I-376 (Parkway West), take the Route 121 (Exit 67) toward Green Tree/Mt. Lebanon

  • Turn left onto Greentree Road (Route 121)

  • Turn left onto Mansfield Avenue

  • Turn right onto Poplar Street (Route 121)

  • Turn right onto Noblestown Road (Route 50)

  • Turn left onto Crafton Boulevard (Route 60)

  • Turn right onto Bradford Avenue

  • Turn right onto Noble Avenue

  • Turn left onto Steuben Street (Route 60)

  • Follow Steuben Street back to the bridge

East of the Thornburg Bridge

  • Follow Steuben Street (Route 60) eastbound

  • Turn right onto Noble Avenue (Route 60)

  • Turn left onto Bradford Avenue

  • Turn left onto Crafton Boulevard (Route 60)

  • Turn right onto Noblestown Road (Route 50)

  • Turn left onto Poplar Street (Route 121)

  • Take the ramp to West 376 toward the Airport

  • Take the I-79 ramp (Exit 64A) toward Erie/Washington

  • Bear right onto the North 79 ramp toward Erie

  • From northbound I-79, take the Route 60 (Exit 60) ramp toward Crafton/Moon Run

  • Turn right onto Steubenville Pike (Route 60)

  • Follow Steubenville Pike back to the bridge

The bridge will reopen to traffic early if the work is completed prior to Monday morning.

Local police will control key intersections at the bridge and on the detour route during peak travel times.

Bridge preservation work including concrete parapet and sidewalk repairs, concrete deck overlay and fencing installation will occur on the Route 60 Thornburg Bridge over Chartiers Creek. Overall work is expected to conclude in the summer of 2023 on this $3.15 million bridge preservation project on Route 60 between Woodmere Drive and Cornell Avenue. Additional work will include traffic signal replacements and ADA curb ramp upgrades. The Swank Construction Company, LLC is the prime contractor.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
