Southbound Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Weekend Closure July 7-10 in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing a full weekend closure of the Boulevard of Allies (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Friday night, July 7 through Monday morning, July 10 weather permitting.

The southbound (outbound) lanes of the Boulevard of the Allies will close to traffic between the Liberty Bridge and Jumonville Street from 9 p.m. Friday night continuously through 5 a.m. Monday morning.  Additionally, the southbound lanes will close to traffic from 9 p.m. Thursday night, July 6 through 5 a.m. Friday, July 7. Crews will conduct concrete expansion dam replacement, concrete bridge deck repairs, concrete substructure work, and miscellaneous construction activities. 

All southbound lanes of the Boulevard of the Allies will be closed and detoured.

I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • From southbound I-579, take the ramp to 7th Avenue/6th Avenue

  • Stay left to the ramp to PPG Arena/6th Avenue

  • Continue straight toward 6th Avenue

  • Cross 6th Avenue and continue straight onto Ross Street

  • Turn left onto Forbes Avenue

  • Follow Forbes Avenue into Oakland

  • Turn right onto Craft Avenue

  • Follow Craft Avenue to Boulevard of the Allies

  • End detour

From Bedford Avenue to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Turn onto Crawford Street

  • Turn right onto Centre Avenue

  • Turn right onto 6th Avenue

  • Turn left onto Ross Street

  • Turn left onto Forbes Avenue

  • Follow Forbes Avenue into Oakland

  • Turn right onto Craft Avenue

  • Follow Craft Avenue to Boulevard of the Allies

  • End detour

From Bigelow Boulevard to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • From Bigelow Boulevard, stay right to the ramp to PPG Arena/6th Avenue

  • Continue straight toward 6th Avenue

  • Cross 6th Avenue and continue straight onto Ross Street

  • Turn left onto Forbes Avenue

  • Follow Forbes Avenue into Oakland

  • Turn right onto Craft Avenue

  • Follow Craft Avenue to Boulevard of the Allies

  • End detour

For motorists continuing to I-376 (Parkway East) from Southbound I-579, Bedford Avenue, or Bigelow Boulevard

  • Turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Turn right onto Bates Street

  • Turn left onto the ramp to East 376 toward Monroeville

  • End detour

From Liberty Bridge to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • From the Liberty Bridge, take the ramp toward Oakland/Monroeville /Boulevard of the Allies to 376 East

  • Turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Continue on the Boulevard of the Allies to Wood Street

  • Turn left onto Wood Street

  • Continue straight and follow sign for 376 East toward Monroeville/Grant Street

  • Take the right-hand ramp to I-376

  • From eastbound I-376, take the ramp to Forbes Avenue/Oakland (Exit 72A)

  • Turn right onto Craft Avenue

  • Follow Craft Avenue to Boulevard of the Allies

  • End detour

Posted Detour – Trucks

All trucks should use the Fort Duquesne Bridge to eastbound I-376 (Parkway East).  However, the following detour can be used if detour signs are missed.

I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • From southbound I-579, take the ramp to 7th Avenue/6th Avenue

  • Stay left to the ramp to PPG Arena/6th Avenue

  • Continue straight toward 6th Avenue

  • Turn right onto 6th Avenue

  • Turn left onto Wood Street

  • Turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Turn right onto the ramp to 376 East toward Monroeville

  • End detour

Preservation work on two mainline Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies bridges and several ramps at the interchange are included in this $35.41 million project. Work will include bridge deck repairs and overlays, expansion dam replacements, steel superstructure and substructure repairs, bearing replacements, full painting, concrete substructure repairs, downspout replacements, drainage repairs, signing and pavement parking upgrades and other miscellaneous construction activities. Motorists will encounter short term lane closures, night and weekend closures of the ramps and Route 885 in each direction, weekend lane restrictions, and overnight directional closures of I-376 Parkway East, long-term closures of Forbes Avenue, Brady Street, and ramps at the Birmingham Bridge. Short-term and weeknight lane closures of Second Avenue are also included throughout this multi-year project.
