​Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing an overnight lane closure on the southbound Interstate 79 local lane in Kennedy, Robinson, and Neville townships, and Glenfield Borough in Allegheny County will begin Thursday, August 10.

Southbound I-79 will close from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, between the southern end of the Neville Island Bridge and the Route 60 North/Moon Run (Exit 60B) interchange to allow crews to conduct latex bridge deck overlay and concrete patching on the bridges over Route 51 and Clever Road. All southbound I-79 through traffic will use the crossed over express lane (left-hand lane) while the local lane is closed. 

The local lane closures will occur as needed.

This work is part of the $43.9 million I-79 “S-Bend” Project that includes full-depth pavement reconstruction, bridge preservation work on five mainline structures (I-79 northbound and southbound over Clever Road, I-79 northbound and southbound over Route 51, and the Neville Island Bridge). Additionally, there will be milling and paving of three ramps at the Route 51 (Coraopolis/McKees Rocks) interchange. The project also includes guiderail replacement, highway lighting and signing upgrades, new pavement markings and delineation, and other miscellaneous construction work.
