I-79 Overnight Ramp Paving Continues in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing milling and paving work on several I-79 interchange ramps in Allegheny County will continue tonight, Thursday night, August 10 weather permitting.

The following ramps will close to traffic for milling and paving operations from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night according to the following schedule:

Thursday night, August 10

  • Mt. Nebo Road to southbound I-79

  • Northbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

  • Southbound I-79 to Glenfield Road

  • Glenfield Road to northbound I-79

Friday night, August 11

  • Southbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

  • Mt. Nebo Road to northbound I-79 

  • Mt. Nebo Road to southbound I-79

  • Northbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

Saturday night, August 12

  • Southbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

  • Mt. Nebo Road to northbound I-79

Only one ramp will close at a time. Ramp traffic will be detoured during the work.

Mt. Nebo Road to Southbound I-79

  • Take I-79 northbound

  • Take the ramp to Wexford (Exit 73)

  • Turn left onto Route 910

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79

  • Follow southbound I-79 back to the Mt. Nebo interchange

  • End detour

Northbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

  • Continue on northbound I-79 past the closed ramp

  • Take the ramp to Wexford (Exit 73)

  • Turn left onto Route 910

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79

  • Follow southbound I-79 back to the Mt. Nebo interchange

  • Take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • End detour

Southbound I-79 to Glenfield Road

  • Continue southbound I-79 past the closed ramp

  • Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65)

  • Turn right onto Grand Avenue

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79

  • Take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Stay left toward Glenfield

  • Turn right onto Deer Run Road

  • Turn left onto Kilbuck Street

  • Follow to Glenfield Road

  • End detour

Glenfield Road to Northbound I-79

  • From Glenfield Road/Kilbuck Street, turn onto Deer Run Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79

  • Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65)

  • Turn right onto Grand Avenue

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79

  • Follow northbound I-79 back to the closed ramp

  • End detour

Southbound I-79 to Mt. Nebo Road

  • Continue southbound I-79 past the closed ramp

  • Take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/ Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Turn left onto Glenfield Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to northbound I-79

  • From northbound I-79 take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • End detour

Mt. Nebo Road to Northbound I-79

  • Take the ramp to southbound I-79

  • Take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/ Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Turn left onto Glenfield Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to northbound I-79

  • Follow northbound I-79 back to the Mt. Nebo Road interchange

  • End detour

Additional ramp closures will occur through August 18.  Details will be provided in advance of work.

The work is part of the $26.49 million I-79 improvement project. Improvements include four bridge deck replacements, one bridge preservation, milling and resurfacing, preservation work on seven sign structures, installation of five new ITS signs, guide rail improvements, signage updates, and pavement marking installation. Crossovers will occur on southbound I-79 in 2023 for bridge deck replacement work. The majority of the project will conclude in early 2024.

The prime contractor is the Joseph B. Fay Company. Work on this project will be coordinated with other projects in the area.
