Southbound Route 51 Saw Mill Run Boulevard Closure Tonight in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of southbound Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur tonight, Wednesday, December 6 weather permitting.

Southbound Route 51 will close to traffic at Woodruff Street from 9 p.m. to approximately 5 a.m. Thursday morning to allow crews to place barrier on the structure over Route 51. Additionally, a single-lane restriction will occur on northbound Route 51 at the structure while the work occurs. Southbound Route 51 will be detoured.

Southbound Route 51 at the Closure at Woodruff Street

  • From southbound Route 51 use the jug handle at Woodruff Street to take Route 51 northbound

  • Follow North Route 19/51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) toward West End Bridge/Downtown

  • Exit towards Route 51/Route 837 toward McKees Rocks/West End

  • Stay in right lane to South Route 837/East I-376 toward Downtown

  • Continue on southbound Route 837 (West Carson Street)

  • Take the ramp to East I-376/North I-279 onto the Fort Pitt Bridge

  • Take Boulevard of the Allies/Liberty Avenue/PPG Arena (Exit 70A)

  • Take the ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Follow the Boulevard of the Allies to the Liberty Bridge

  • Cross the Liberty Bridge and continue through the Liberty Tunnel

  • Take the ramp to South 51 toward Uniontown

  • End detour

Crews from Swank Construction Company, LLC will conduct the work.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
