Uniontown, PA – PennDOT District 12 would like to inform motorists of the following traffic impacts related to work on Route 981 located in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, weather and operational dependent.
The current road closure at the intersection of Route 2007 (Hecla Road) and Route 981 will continue through the end of June, to allow crews to construct segments of the new roundabout. A posted detour is in place utilizing Hecla Road, Route 981, Route 819, and Armbrust‑Hecla Road.
Crews from Walsh Construction Company will be performing the work.
This work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project to upgrade the Route 981 corridor from the intersection with Route 819 in Mount Pleasant Township to the intersection with Route 30 in Unity Township and is broken into 3 separate projects. The southernmost section will involve reconstruction of Route 981 from the intersection with Route 819 north to a point just south of the town of Calumet. The project is expected to be complete in September 2024.
