Route 981 Flagging Operations and Closure Scheduled to Begin Next Week in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing the closure of Route 981 between Boyer Road and Fiedors Grove Road in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County scheduled to begin next week. The traffic impacts will allow crews from Walsh Construction Company to construct a section of Route 981 as well as perform work to a Pennsylvania Turnpike access road. 

Prior to the closure, flagging operations will occur Wednesday, August 16. The closure is scheduled to begin Thursday, August 17 and remain in place through Thursday, August 24. 

A posted detour will be in place utilizing Route 2021 (Kecksburg Road), Route 982, Route 31, Route 819, and Route 981. 

This work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project to upgrade the Route 981 corridor from the intersection with Route 819 in Mount Pleasant Township to the intersection with Route 30 in Unity Township and is broken into three separate projects. The southernmost section will involve reconstruction of Route 981 from the intersection with Route 819 north to a point just south of the town of Calumet. The project is expected to be complete in September 2024.
