UPDATE: New Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Bridge Underway in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is providing an update to the Monday, December 4, 2023, press release regarding temporary traffic modifications on Route 51 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County.

Single-lane restrictions are currently in place on:

  • Northbound and southbound Route 51.
    • Between Concord Lane and Finley Road.
    • Anticipated through the evening of Friday, December 8. 
  • Southbound Route 51.
    • Between Finley Road and Ridge Road.
    • Anticipated through the evening of Friday, December 22.
    • All lanes will be open through the weekends.
    • Potential northbound restrictions will occur in the same location.

Construction work is done depending on weather and operations.

Restrictions will be removed for inclement weather.

Crews from Golden Triangle and subcontractors will be performing work for the new Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Bridge, along with the overpass carrying Route 51 over Interstate 70, as part of the $120.6 million Interstate 70 at Route 51 Improvement Project, which is anticipated to be complete in October 2027. 

Exercise caution, remain alert, and follow the posted signs and speed limits. Safety is everyone's responsibility.
