Route 981 Closing Tuesday in Westmoreland County


Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that a portion of Route 981 (Mount Pleasant Calumet Road) is scheduled to close on Tuesday, May 28, from Waltons Lane to Boyer Road in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County.

A posted detour will be in place using Route 2021 (Kecksburg Road), Route 982, Route 31 (East/West Main Street), and Route 819 (North Diamond Street/Low Street) and is anticipated until mid-June depending on weather and operations.

Crews from Walsh Construction Company will be tying the new Route 981 into to the existing Route 981.

This work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project ( to upgrade the Route 981 corridor from the intersection with Route 819 in Mount Pleasant Township to the intersection with Route 30 in Unity Township and is broken into three separate projects. The southernmost section will involve reconstruction of Route 981 from the intersection with Route 819 north to a point just south of the town of Calumet. The project is expected to be complete in September 2024.
