SEPTA Bus-Only Lane to be Painted Red on Market Street in Philadelphia

06/02/2023

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a SEPTA red bus-only lane will be painted on Market Street next week under a project to repair and resurface 44 miles of state highways in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Motorists should allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor is milling and resurfacing 14 state highways in Philadelphia using bituminous material and performing various maintenance roadway enhancements.

In addition, PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia and SEPTA are working together to paint red bus-only lanes to reduce crashes. In 2022, PennDOT's contractor painted the first red bus-only lane on Chestnut Street between Broad Street (Route 611) and 2nd Street.

Tony DePaul and Son, of Flourtown, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $10.2 million resurfacing project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
