King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge over Interstate 95 will close beginning Tuesday, September 5, for construction to expand and improve the covered section of I-95 between Chestnut and Walnut streets.

During the closure, pedestrians will be directed to use Dock Street to cross over I-95.

The Walnut Street pedestrian crossing will remain closed through summer 2027 while PennDOT's contractors dismantle the existing covered area and construct a new concrete cover over I-95 between Chestnut and Walnut streets that extends east over Columbus Boulevard at Penn's Landing.

The work is among the early-stage construction activities underway on PennDOT's $329 million I-95/CAP project to replace, expand and improve the existing covered section of I-95 and improve multi-modal connections between Center City and the Delaware River waterfront.
