King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway and bridge construction will continue next week under a $7.8 million project to replace the overhead ramp and structure from southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) to southbound U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a partial left lane closure will be in place on the northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) ramp at Old York Road for roadway, curb and drainage improvement work; and
- Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, periodic single left lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) between Wyoming Avenue and 16th Street for barrier installation and shoulder work.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas or use an alternate route because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities under this contract are weather dependent.
Drivers are reminded that the southbound U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) ramp remains closed 24/7 through Monday, January 22, when the ramp is scheduled to reopen to traffic.
During the ramp closure, southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) motorists are being directed to use Wyoming Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) to access U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue).
Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will remove the existing single-span, steel plate girder bridge carrying the southbound U.S. 13/Hunting Park Avenue ramp over U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and replace the structure with a single-span, prestressed, precast concrete bridge that will provide additional vertical clearance.
Improvements also include constructing retaining wall extensions on the approaches of the new bridge; performing full depth paving; and installing and constructing new sidewalk, ADA curb ramps, new traffic signal, highway lighting, guiderail and pavement markings.
South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J., is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100% federal funds.
