Roundabout Safety Improvement Project to Restrict New Britain Road in Doylestown Township

01/24/2024

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will continue on a project to improve safety by constructing roundabouts at the intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road in Doylestown Township, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
  • Thursday, February 1, through summer 2024, New Britain Road will be reduced 24/7 to one lane between Easton Road and Rolling Hill Boulevard. During the lane closure, motorists will be directed to use Lower State Road, U.S. 202, and Easton Road.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will construct two adjacent single-lane roundabouts at the bifurcated intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road. The roundabouts will include new drainage and sidewalks; ADA-compliant crossings; bicycle facilities, lighting, and full-depth pavement reconstruction.

The design will include transit facilities to accommodate SEPTA and DART routes. There are existing trails to the east and west of the project that will be connected as part of this project. The proposed trail connection will circle the roundabouts connecting Triangle Park and the Heritage Gateway Center at Doylestown to adjacent residences and businesses.

The project aims to reduce overall crashes at the intersection; reduce vehicle speeds; and improve bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety near the intersection.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia, PA is the general contractor on the $3.9 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds.
