Roadway Improvements Planned on Two State Highways in West Brandywine Township

03/25/2024

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway improvements will occur next week on U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) and Route 82 (Manor Road) under a project to improve travel and safety in West Brandywine Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
  • Monday, April 1, through Friday, May 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a weekday lane closure is scheduled on U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) between Hibernia Road and Icedale Road.
  • Monday, April 1, through Friday, May 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a weekday lane closure is scheduled on Route 82 (Manor Road) between Hibernia Road and Tomahawk Lane.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will perform minor widening of the existing roadway to accommodate the construction of left turn lanes on U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike); replacement of existing and installation of new traffic signals, signal supports and related equipment; replacement and installation of signage related to the intersection; and restoration of pavement markings.

The project aims to improve safety by reducing the number and severity of vehicular crashes at the intersection that has received a higher-than-average number of rear-end crashes, especially during dark and dawn periods.

Brubacher Excavating, Inc. of Bowmansville, PA, is the general contractor on the $1.9 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
