Construction Scheduled on Two U.S. 422 Improvement Projects in Montgomery County - 15-minute traffic stoppages planned on U.S. 422 for controlled blasting

03/28/2024

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will occur next week on U.S. 422 under two improvement projects in Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday April 1, through Thursday, April 4, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages and traffic paces will take place in both directions on U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard for controlled blasting.
  • Monday April 1, through Thursday, April 4, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for shoulder reconstruction and clearing.
  • Monday, April 1, through Thursday, April 4, from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Hanover Street for shoulder reconstruction and clearing.
  • Monday, April 1, through Thursday, April 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a single lane pattern with flaggers will be in place on Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) between Country Club Road and Valley Creek Road in Schuylkill Township, Chester County, for utility installation.
  • Sunday, April 6, through September, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, Sundays through Thursdays, alternating single lane closures will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 29/Collegeville and Bridgeport/Valley Forge (Route 23) interchanges in Upper Providence and Lower Providence townships for sawcutting and concrete patching.

The stoppages and paces are required for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely perform controlled rock blasting to excavate the area for drainage construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The blasting, shoulder reconstruction, and utility installation are part of an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve U.S. 422 and replace two bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

The sawcutting and concrete patching are part of a $6.9 million project to rehabilitate pavement on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 29/Phoenixville and Route 363/Trooper Road interchanges.
