Paving Planned Tuesday Night for I-95 Permanent Reconstruction at Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia

04/10/2024

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that paving operations are planned at night next week on Interstate 95 through the ongoing permanent reconstruction project at the Cottman Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Tuesday, April 16, a left lane closure will be in place beginning at 7:00 PM, followed by a double lane closure at 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on southbound I-95 between the Academy Road and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges.
  • Tuesday, April 16, a left lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on northbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Academy Road interchanges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The lane closures are necessary so PennDOT's contractor can safely place the concrete deck on the inner section of the new southbound bridge.

The outside sections of the new bridge were completed last November, and traffic was shifted onto the completed outer sections while work on the center section of the bridge continues into mid-2024.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
