PennDOT to Begin Bridge Superstructure Replacement on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) in West Goshen Township

04/26/2024

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that superstructure replacement will begin on the Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge over U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Monday, May 6, through late December, a 24/7 traffic shift is scheduled in both directions on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Taylors Mill Road and Goshen Road. As traffic patterns are set in place, motorists will encounter periodic 15-minute traffic holds, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, during the first few weeks of construction.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

On December 21, 2023, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass), and the ramp from Route 100 to eastbound U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) were closed after a large vehicle struck the Route 100 bridge over the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass).

PennDOT's contractor repaired the structure and a section of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) where debris from the bridge strike had fallen onto the roadway. Currently the roadway shoulders are closed in both directions on Route 100 over the expressway.

Built in 1955, the single-span, steel stringer Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge over U.S. 322 is 77-feet-long, 80-feet-wide, and carries about 15,691 vehicles per day.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
