Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that barrier removal will occur on Sunday night, May 12, on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.

In addition, a shoulder closure will be in place on sections of eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and I-676 interchanges on Monday, May 13, through Friday, May 17, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for guiderail installation and utility construction.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this contract, PennDOT will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement from U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) to Interstate 676 (Vine Street Expressway); perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.
