The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that The Beaver Excavating Company, Inc., of Canton, Ohio, is set to repair a slope along Route 985 (Somerset Pike) that will stabilize the roadway. The work will start on Monday, August 14, 2023, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County.

A detour will start when the construction does. Traffic will follow Route 985 (Somerset Pike) to U.S. Route 30 to Route 219 to Route 403 and back to Route 985 (Somerset Pike). The 30-mile detour will be in place for 28 days. Delays are not expected however motorists should plan their travel accordingly.

The contractor will excavate down the slope about 25 feet, then place rock benching to repair the slide. They will replace the guide rail and place new bituminous pavement in the excavated area.

The $330,436.00 project is weather dependent and is expected to be completed by mid-September 2023.
