Traffic Changes begin April 8 for the State Route-PA 56 (Johnstown Expressway) Exit and Entrance Ramp Rehabilitation Project

Hollidaysburg, PABeginning next week, periodic lane closures will be in place at several locations on the State Route PA 56 (Johnstown Expressway), Widman Street to Walters Avenue, as the contractor begins work on the Cambria County project.  

The project, located in Richland and Stoneycreek townships and the City of Johnstown, will involve the rehabilitation of the traveled roadway, replacing and upgrading of existing guiderail and drainage systems and preservation of four structures. Quaker Sales in Johnstown is the general contractor for the two-year, $14.7 million project. 

 

On April 8, work will be done under short-term traffic operations with message boards and directional panels, with work including milling and filling-in rumble strips in preparation for the long-term lane closure.  ​


On April 15, long-term lane closures on 56 East and West bound between U.S. 219 and Widman Street will be put in placeMotorists should expect minimal delays due to single-lane traffic control both east-bound and west-bound. The work will include milling, paving, crack and seat work, upgrades to drainage and guiderailDetours are scheduled for the exit and entrance ramps for May, with an exact date to be announced closer to the time of implementation.
