UPDATE: 4/24/24 PennDOT updates the status of three roads in Cambria and Somerset counties damaged by early April's heavy rain and stormwater

04/24/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an update on the status of three roads – two closed and one restricted – damaged during heavy rains and high stormwater in early April.

State Route 403 - Tire Hill Road from Ferndale Avenue to Greenhouse Park in Somerset County

The section of SR 403 at Greenhouse Park remains closed. The section of road near Greenhouse Park was slated for renovation in June as part of the SR 403 Tire Hill Road Improvement Project prior to the stormwater damage. Work on the project in the form of utility relocation is currently underway. PennDOT is planning detour routes and a construction schedule. Completion of the project is anticipated for September 2024.

State Route 53 between Portage and Lilly in Cambria County

Work began today (April 24) on SR 53 between Portage and Lilly. The route will remain closed until completion of the repairs, which are anticipated to take three (3) weeks. The repair work includes reconstruction of the slope with benching and the placing of rock.

State Route 271 - Menoher Boulevard between Susan Drive and Barnett Street in Cambria County

Traffic will remain restricted to two of three lanes until further notice. A concrete barrier has been placed in the closed lane to protect traffic from the compromised slope. The damage has been evaluated and survey and soil borings have been completed. Removal of the slide material, and slope stabilization work will be completed once a plan is in place. The work is scheduled to be finished in July.
