PennDOT Temporarily Reduces Speed Limit on Route 35

05/04/2023

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that it has temporarily reduced the speed limit on Route 35 in Milford Township, Juniata County, between Mowery Street and Varnes Road from 45 mph to 35 mph. Signage was installed earlier today, and the change is now legally posted and enforceable.

This reduction is intended to enhance motorists' safety on Route 35 by curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

The move was prompted by the road's inclusion in a detour route for the ongoing Port Royal bridge replacement project. This reduction, along with two radar-controlled speed display boards placed last month, will remain in place until construction for the ongoing project wraps in mid-September.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of Pennsylvania crashes and fatalities. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally, and tailgating.

PennDOT listed aggressive driving behaviors as a factor in 44 percent of crashes in Juniata County in 2022.
