Route 220 Bridge Improvement Project Prepares to Switch Traffic in Lycoming County

10/19/2023

Montoursville, PA – Motorists who travel Route 220 northbound and southbound in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, are advised that a bridge replacement and rehabilitation project continues. This project will replace both structures carrying Route 220 over the Fourth Street off ramp and will also rehabilitate both structures over Antlers Lane and the Lycoming Valley Railroad.

Current Traffic Patterns

  • All traffic is currently traveling on the southbound side of the highway. The moveable barrier system will be moved daily to ensure two lanes of travel northbound for the morning commute and two lanes of travel southbound for the afternoon commute. During these times, the opposing direction of traffic will be restricted to one lane.

Traffic Patterns Expected to Change Week of October 23

  • The contractor will be preparing to return northbound traffic to the recently completed northbound side of the roadway. The moveable barrier system will be removed, and traffic will return to two lanes in each direction, for the winter.
  • Motorist should use caution and expect changing traffic conditions early in the week with the northbound traffic scheduled to be returned to the northbound side of the road the week of October 23, 2023.
  • Motorist should expect daily lane closures in the following few weeks to perform miscellaneous construction items in preparation for the winter shut down, scheduled for late November.

Construction of the southbound structures is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2024. Motorists can expect traffic to be controlled by the moveable barrier system that was used this season.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays, watch for changing traffic patterns, and drive with caution in the area. Motorists should approach crossovers with caution in the work zone.

Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation is the prime contractor on this $18 million, multi-year bridge improvement project.

This construction season, the contactor completed the replacement and rehabilitation of the northbound structures. The southbound structures are scheduled to be completed next year.
