BUS 209/Hamilton East Bridge over Kettle Creek

This project consists of the replacement of the State Route 2012 (BUS 209/Hamilton East) bridge over Kettle Creek in Hamilton Township, Monroe County.

This online plans display includes digital picture boards and an online questionnaire, and is available to the public from January 3, 2024 to February 9, 2024.

The purpose of the project is to maintain a safe crossing over Kettle Creek on BUS 209/Hamilton East that meets current design criteria. The existing structure is posted with an 18-Ton except 27-Ton combinations weight restriction. The structure is in poor condition and needs to be replaced.

The existing structure is a single-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge built in 1925. The bridge has a span of 34’ and a curb-to-curb width of 29’-5” and carries two lanes. The roadway is posted for 40 mph.

The proposed structure is a single span pre-stressed concrete spread box beam bridge. The proposed bridge will have a span of 50’-4” and a curb-to-curb width of 32’-0”.

Temporary construction easements and required right-of-way acquisition is anticipated to facilitate access and installation of the new structure/driveways. Utilities will be impacted by construction and relocations will be coordinated with utility owners.

BUS 209/Hamilton East will be closed and detoured during construction. The proposed 3.6-mile detour for passenger vehicles will utilize Easton Belmont Pike, Manor Drive and Hickory Valley Road. A separate proposed 9.1-mile detour for trucks will utilize US 209, Interstate 80 and BUS 209.

Individuals or groups with a demonstrated interest within the project limits, surrounding businesses, and local property owners that may be affected by the proposed project are encouraged to review the displays and contact us with any questions.

The project is currently in design and construction work is currently estimated to take place in the 2025 construction season. However, this schedule is tentative and may change.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.

It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential effect upon cultural resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
